One of the most important things we do for our plants is watering them. Each plant variety requires different methods and amounts of watering, to keep them looking their very best. With a little effort it is worth getting this right to give them a healthy life.

One of the biggest mistakes people make is overwatering their plants. Most plants don’t like to have wet feet and this can cause root rot.

For most plants, test the soil by putting your finger an inch or more into the soil. If it is dry, give it a drink. If moist, check again in a couple of days. Wet-loving plants may need water once the soil surface dries, but get to know your plant first before you start overwatering it.
